If you want to learn a bit more before making a decision, let’s get started.
If you’re not familiar with the brand Blendtec blenders, it may be helpful to get a bit of context first. In short, they’re a manufacturer of blenders located in Utah and have been around for about 50 years. Their founder, an inventor, got fed up when a wedding gift blender broke and he set out to create a brand of top of the line blenders.
Today, they’re a family run business in Utah that creates both commercial blenders and residential blenders. With their Classic blender line, they took the same technology used to build a top of the line commercial blender and created a line of simple to use blenders for home cooks.
To start off on a high note, the Blendtec Total Blender classic is quite powerful, maxing out at 1560 watts. For context, anything over 1000 watts would be considered “high powered” in my book. This powerful motor will make sure whatever it is you’re blending will be blended to any consistency that you’re looking for. With power like this, you can expect no chunks in your smoothie.
To take the guesswork out of your blending, the blendtec total blender has 6 preset functions: smoothie, batters, hot soup, whole juice, ice cream, and ice crush.
If one of those settings isn’t quite right, there are 10 custom speeds to choose from and a pulse function.
To use these preset functions it’s as easy as pressing one of the buttons on the base of blender. One of the great things about this blender is how easy it is to operate. While it has quite a few different settings to choose from, there are only a few buttons on the blender.
When using the preset functions, a timer on the blender will start. To keep track of how much time is left on your blend, there’s an LCD screen right on the base of the blender.
Taking the guesswork out of your blending couldn’t be simpler with this Blendtec blender.
This Blendtec total blender comes with a 75 ounce BPA free plastic fourside jar and has a 32 ounce blending capacity. At this size, the blender jar is ideal for blending for 3 to 4 people at a time.
To help make measuring and adding ingredients a bit easier, the side of the blender jar lines measuring each 4 ounces up to 32 ounces. In addition to having the ounces printed on the jar, the total blender jar also has “cups” so you can make sure you’re adding the right amount of ingredients.
In one word, the Blendtec total blender is versatile. This blender has no problem making smoothies, nut butter, salsas, frozen yogurt, and even hot soup.
That’s right, this blender can head up your blender contents using friction alone to make hot soup.
You can drop frozen fruit right into the jar to make frozen desserts creation, or get creative and make your own ice cream.
With this Blendtec blender, your blended creations are only limited by your imagination as this blender can handle just about anything.
If you’re an avid baker, the Blendtec total blender can help create the batter or dough consistency of your dreams without you having to do ANY stirring. That’s right, the blender classic can even help you make cookies.
If a blender handling both hot soups and cookie dough isn’t versatility, I don’t know what is.
Pros and Cons
While this blender certainly is a great choice for novice blenders as well as blending veterans alike, there are still some things to consider before deciding whether or not to purchase this blender. To summarize, here are some pros and cons to keep in mind when making a decision about whether or not this is the right blender for you.
- Versatility: make anything from ice cream to green smoothies
- Preprogrammed cycles: take the guesswork out of blending
- Powerful motor keeps the blending pattern consistent and can blend just about anything
- The jar is dishwasher safe and made from BPA free plastic
- There is a limited warranty provided by Blendtec
- Pricey: while not as expensive as premium Vitamix blenders, this is not a budget friendly choice
- This blender is pretty large so it makes the most sense if you’ve got good counter space and typically blend for more than one person
What Are Others Saying?
So far we have gone over a lot of information about the Blendtec total blender but what about others users of this Blendtec blender?
To help give some more perspective outside of our own, we went through countless customer reviews to try and give you the information you need to decide if this is the right blender for you.
All in all, customers are big fans of the total blender. On Amazon, it has over 2,000 reviews and is rated 4.6 stars out of 5. People using this blender use it to make whole juice with fresh fruit, smoothies with frozen ingredients, hot soups, and everything in between.
A common comment about this blender is that it was loud. Being that it’s a blender, most other buyers weren’t too upset about that but if you’re looking for a particularly quiet blender this one might not be the best for you.
In the reviews we also found that many people using this blender choose to wash it by hand and first just blend up a small amount of warm water and dish soap. With this cleaning method, you can keep the fourside jar looking newer for longer.
There were some customers upset about the blender reportedly not working after a few weeks or months, but those comments seem to be in the minority. To help ease the potential quality concerns, it’s worth remembering the Blendtec total blender has a 2 year warranty included.
Alternatives to the Blendtec Total Classic Blender
This Blendtec blender is without a doubt a great blender and would be a great choice for many. However, it’s certainly not the only blender on the market.
If you aren’t so sure this is the right blender for you or if you just want to see what else is out there, here are a couple of strong alternatives to the total blender.
While the Blendtec total blender makes a great Vitamix alternative, it’s not in fact, a Vitamix. If you are looking to get a genuine Vitamix blender, the E310 would be a great choice. While there are a ton of Vitamix blenders on the market, we chose to include the E310 because it has a similar price point as the Blendtec total blender.
While it has a similar price, these blenders do have some undeniable differences.
Firstly, the pitcher sizes between these blenders is quite different. The Vitamix E310 comes with a 48 ounce pitcher while the Blendtec total blender comes with a 75 ounce fourside jar. If you are typically blending for larger groups, the E310 with the 48 ounce pitcher might not be enough room.
Another big difference between these 2 blenders are the amount of preset functions. The Blendtec total blender has quite a few setting to choose from while the Vitamix E310 has 10 speeds to choose from. They both have pulse features but if you value the “set it and forget it” convenience of pre programmed speeds, the Blendtec may be a better choice.
The Vitamix blender also comes with a tamper to make sure your foods are being blended in the most effective manner. The Blendtec blender does not come with a tamper but instead relies on its blade design to continuously blend all your foods evenly.
Aside from those factors these blenders are fairly similar and are both very high quality. If you want the Vitamix name in your kitchen and don’t mind being a bit more hands on, the E310 would be a great choice.
If you aren’t looking for a high powered blender or would prefer to keep your purchase to under $100, the Ninja BL610 is worth taking a close look at. While it doesn’t have nearly as much power as the Blendtec blender, the Ninja BL610 still is quite powerful at 1000 watts of power.
1000 watts is plenty of power to make whole juice, smoothies, nut butter, and crush ice. It may stuggle a bit with thicker vegetables or with a lot in the blender, but if you aren’t blending a ton, this shouldn’t be an issue.
Aside from the power different, the Ninja BL610 has far fewer speed options and just has Low, Medium, High settings as well as a pulse feature. If you were a big fan of the pre programmed settings of the total blender, this may be a deal breaker.
Apart from those 2 differences, these blenders will function very similarly. The pitcher sizes are about the same and they’re both made from BPA free plastic so they are dishwasher safe or you can use a bit of water and dish soap to clean them.
If you’re just getting started on your blending journey or are looking for a powerful blender on a budget, the BL610 would be a great choice.
I hope you found this Blendtec total blender review helpful and were able to determine whether or not this is the right blender for you. Blendtec machines are a favorite among all different kinds of blending enthusiasts so you would definitely be in good company by choosing this blender.
Whether this will be your first blender or your fifth, the Blendtec total blender combines power, ease of use, and a high capacity jar to make it a great blender for home cooks of all kinds.
